The Ouachitas are some of those mountains I've visited a handful of times, and always afterwards find myself thiking that I need to explore them more. Back in 2007 I said I'd be back. Again in 2010 I said I'd be back. So off I went for a few days to lose myself for the third time in the vibrant green of spring - complete with lush hillsides, roaring boulder-strawn rivers, sunny mountaintops, and shadowy flower-lined creekbeds - this trail had it all. The forest was alive, the weather was refreshingly perfect, and I thoroughly enjoyed the smooth riverbottom stones underfoot at the nine wet crossings. This is the life!
Marys Creek Lake Number Five
Did a lot of fishin' this weekend, some catchin'. My neighbor has allowed me to use his jon boat to head towards the deeper waters. As I was shovin' it off the shore the other day I came within inches of steppin on a 3+ foot cottonmouth. I backed off and had to throw sticks at him to move until he finally slithered into the water. He wasnt a happy camper.
